It's an easy drive through the mountains along an ancient river bed and an easy walk from Stirling Range Retreat to the National Park, a nature lover's wonderland. The park boasts over 1530 species of flowering plants (more than 87 are endemic), 10 species of Mountain Bells (Darwinia) and 125 species of orchids. Walkers will be surprised to find flowers in the National Park at any time of the year.
During autumn the weather is cooling down and dawn is not quite so early in the morning. It is a magic time for bush walking, and a head in the clouds experience!
When strong southerly winds and widespread frosty conditions occur, there is an increased likelihood of snow on top of the highest peaks. When snow is forecast weather conditions on the mountain tops are extreme. Snowfalls on the mountain tops have occured at other times of the year when these weather conditions prevail.
On the mountain tops the flowers are at their best in December and January!

Summer is favoured by walkers who are invigorated by mountain walks at dawn. Dawn is at approximately 6:14am on January 1st and the mountains are magic early on a summer morning. This is the time when campers really enjoy rising with the sun, lazing around the pool and early nights.
